Partners Desk

This desk was designed for a well-appointed home office with wooden paneling and built in cabinetry. Both sides of the partners’ desk are functionally the same except for the marquetry patterns on the doors and top drawers. The patterns on the doors are the same on both sides: the outside background is bubinga and the inside background is curly maple. The marquetry on the doors and panels incorporates bubinga, curly maple, walnut, mahogany and ebony veneer. The marquetry pieces were cut out with an Eclipse scroll saw. The detailed patterns on the individual marquetry pieces were

burnt on using a Detail Master wood-burning tool.

The desk support structure and top are made out of solid bubinga. The joints are a combination of mortise and tenon, constructed using the Leigh FMT jig, and frame and panel. The desk measures 29” high, 32” wide and 64” long. The internal drawers are made of European beech and are constructed using dovetail joints made with a Leigh dovetail jig.

All surfaces were finished using lacquer sanding sealer to give a perfectly smooth surface and then finished with several coats of spray satin lacquer.
